21st February 2015

I did a doodle today in anticipation of the Oscars. I love the glam, the glitz, the celebritiness and of course the dresses (shoes, handbags, jewels.....). Fashion is such a wonderful art form and expression of personality, whether genuine or acted on. I marvel at the amount of time it takes to just enable everyone to walk the red carpet, papped and snapped from every (posed) angle - a logistical feat in itself.

So with my excitement building to see who-will-wear-what-and-who-will-look-hot-and-who-will-not, I have done some doodles of some of my past favourite dresses, worn by Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Michelle Williams and Miley Cyrus.

Orange Lake Light

I did a doodle today as part of this week's #colour_collective and the colour Orange Lake Light. With my mind still drifting back to book number three (currently on hold as I submit one and two to publishers), I have a continued desire to draw wildlife. As one of my favourite animals is the orangutan, it seemed perfectly, wonderfully obvious to match them to this week's orangey challenge.

Having been lucky enough to go trekking and see these wonderful creatures in the wild, the two things that I shall always remember are just how hairy they are, especially the wild punk babies, and how movingly soulful and deep their eyes are. They transfix you through expression and making an impression. Love them.

19th February 2015

I did a doodle today despite feeling very lethargic and very lazy. Nothing about the weather has inspired me with energy or inspiration to do much today, opting instead for leftover birthday cake and half term films.

So as the evening approaches, I have had to scold myself and remind my creative 'me' that there's work to be done. So a late burst of motivation, guilt (cake) ridden, has got me putting pencil to paper for (ironically) some prelim work on motion and movement. Today, the horse.

18th February 2015

I did a (quick) doodle today because it's my birthday and I have been caught up on a wonderful whirlwind of wrapping paper, cakes and champagne! So it seemed only fitting to pick a little part of one of my favourite presents and doodle it.

17th February 2015

I did a doodle today as I dashed from here to there, across the beautiful Dorset countryside. From morning dawn to evening set, we saw hills and water ways, wild fowl and buzzards, foxes and deers, forests and farmland. So here is my five minute sketch and watercolour doodle snapshot of the day.

16th February 2015

I did a doodle today as an experiment. I've been clearing out my old school stuff from my mum's house and came across my school diaries from when I was 5. It struck me that back then I drew way more than I wrote and that I actually did some rather cute and almost recognisable pictures.

One of my forthcoming books involves some illustrations that are meant to be done by young children, so I have tested myself today and tried to draw like a five year old... I failed. Five year old me way out did almost forty year old me, and quite frankly put me to shame!

Can you draw like a five year old?

So here are my pictures of a dog, a singing lady and a bus. Five year old me first, followed by 'pretending-to-be-five' me! Where-o-where did all the inhibitions go?!

15th February 2015

I did a doodle today after creating a fuzzy-felt masterpiece! Sunday fun with my Little One saw us get creative with a very, very old box of fuzzy-felt (mine from when I was a Little One). Who knew that tractors could be a focal point in a beautiful modern art swirl?!

So here is (firstly) my Little One's creation and then mine. I of course took it a step further and got ap-happy playing with colour and shape patterns, all edited from my fuzzy-felt fireworks picture.
