21st March 2015

I did a doodle today for World Poetry Day. I studied and read many poems as a teenager and in my early twenties, but sadly have been distant from them since. Or so I thought.

Poetry comes in so many varied and beautiful guises, obvious in their subtlety a lot of the time, or unobvious in their disguise at other times. I have listened and sung along to song lyrics on the radio; I have been captivated nightly with my daughters bedtime stories, rhyming or chanting to childhood prose; I have memories and emotions evoked through poetic licence of advertising, words from prose used to obtain reactions; and I look at my own work, the words I have written, and realise the poetic beauty within descriptions and character formations.

The poetry of my youth and informative years has stood the test of time and played a quiet role in so many aspects of my life. It crept in when I wasn't looking and has worked its magic.

Thank you poetry.

My favourite poem: I WANDERED LONELY AS A CLOUD, By William Wordsworth

I WANDERED lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed--and gazed--but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

20th March 2015

I did a doodle today, in fact two doodles today, for the #colour_collective. This week's colour is Mustard Yellow, so my original thought was lets not reinvent the wheel. This led to my silly dachshund in fancy dress.... of course!

However, today is quite a significant day in the grand world of all things worldly and out-of-this-worldly. A full eclipse, the first in 16 years (I stood in a car park in Hemel Hempsted for the last one) and this year I was truly blessed to be in one of the few parts of the country to have clear skies, and blue skies at that. The eclipse was stunning and blindingly so. As a result, I have based my second doodle on a photo of the eclipse. Not a true reflection of the picture, but how the eclipse was in my mind.

I did a doodle today after experiencing a range of different levels of customer service. It never ceases to amaze me how people conduct themselves to customers and in front of customers, from owners, managers and employees, there really should be no reason that people cannot grasp the simple fact that good service costs nothing but pays well.

So today: someone showed me loyalty as a recurring customer (and not a blinkin loyalty card in sight); someone went out of their way to help me (above and beyond their paid role); I picked the one person who blatantly didn't want to be there (life doesn't owe you a living you know); and someone actually almost made me cry.

See if you can guess which was which:

Barista in a coffee shop
Owner of a boutique
Sales assistant in a high street chain
A builder

The pictures show my Customer Satisfaction ratings - they are in no particular order...

I did a doodle today of me, or is it of my hand? The title says it is of my hand, but I can see some uncanny similarities...

A bit of bonkers doodling today, because (quite frankly) I feel a bit bonkers today. Nothing wrong with that once in a while.

I did a doodle today as part of Challenge Tuesday, where I like to liven things up a bit and set myself random challenges. Today's challenge came as a result of a gorgeous little illustration I saw of a hedgehog curled into a ball, looking like  a perfect prickly snuffly circle. So my I decided to see if I could create an animal family using a triangle, square and circle.

And my animal of choice?

A pig.

Of course.

Daddy Pig
Mummy Pig

Little Piglet

16th March 2015

I did a doodle today because it is 'Ickle Monday'. It's all about making things ickly-poppily-cutsily-little, and I reckon I can make anything ickly-poppily-cutsily-little... now there's a challenge.
So today I thought BIG. Tall, wide, strong trees have now been ickled.

Happy Ickle Monday everyone.

15th March 2015

I did a doodle today, we'll just done it actually as it's been a very long day. Long and fabulous day. Woken with clay button hearts and ending with a glass of red, the middle was filled with flowers, a fair few motorways, brilliant friends, gorgeous girls and some sweet smelling flowers... And some delicious posh nosh in posh place. In summary: excellent day.
